Javier Palomarez, USHBC President & CEO, Welcomes Renewed U.S. Engagement with Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru

WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, September 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The United States Hispanic Business Council commends Secretary of State Marco Rubio for visiting Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru to strengthen U.S. security and economic engagement with key Latin American partners. The United States pursued closer economic and security ties, including new cooperation with Colombia on critical minerals, energy, and counternarcotics. Additionally, the tour announced expanded security coordination with Ecuador and a strengthened partnership with Peru, as it joined the Shield of the Americas.

Stronger relationships in the Western Hemisphere can create new commercial opportunities, more resilient supply chains, greater regional stability, and closer coordination against transnational crime. However, lasting progress will depend on cooperative, multilateral engagement with nations across the hemisphere, respecting national sovereignty and shared economic and security interests.

It is in the best interest of the United States to have partners across Latin America that are stable, economically dynamic, and increasingly connected to the American economy. Deeper trade and investment ties can open new markets for American businesses, create jobs throughout the hemisphere, shore up critical supply chains, and revitalize hemispheric relationships. It is also imperative that our nations work together to confront transnational criminal networks that undermine communities, businesses, and families across borders.

While I welcome the progress made and commend Secretary Rubio for his leadership and diplomacy, we must remember that agreements and announcements are only as meaningful as the results they produce. What matters now is whether this tour will lead to greater private-sector investment, fewer trade barriers, stronger democratic institutions, and real economic opportunity for the people of the Americas. We must demonstrate that the United States is a reliable partner that can deliver durable, mutually beneficial growth. I encourage the administration to build on this momentum with other Latin American partners, and create a more secure and prosperous future for all of the Americas.”
